ligious classes will be offered
weekly for mentally handicapped
children by the Board of Jewish
Education here.
Samuel Litov, director of the de-
partment of special education, said
the program for the mentally han-
, dicapped was not a "simplified
version" of the regular religious
class but a program designed spe-
cifically to meet the needs of chil-
dren with learning disabilities.
Litov said that one of the most
important aspects of the program
was the fact that it drew the han-
dicapped child closer to the family.
and made him feel as if he were
an integral part of the family life
by doing what his brothers and sis-
ters were doing. The children are
also prepared for Bar Mitzva and
Bat Mitzva.
