Israel Govt. Studies Ways to Aid Foreign Students JERUSALEM (JTA)—The cabi- net has decided to take measures to expand facilities for foreign students at Israel's institutions of higher learning. The matter will be studigd by Deputy Minister Yi- gal Alldn, who is also minister' of immigrant absorption. All universities and many paro- chial schools in Israel receive gov- ernment subsidies. However, they claim to be unable to accommo- date more than 5.000 overseas stu- dents presently in the country. The problem which Alton , will undertake to solve involves hous- ing shortages, the need for special Hebrew classes for foreigners and a broadening of various activities and facilities which are not necys- sary to the majority of Israeli stu- dents who live at home. Hasmonean Tower Discovered Inside Roman Era Citadel (JTA)—Archaeol- ogists announced Wednesday 'that they have unearthed the remains .of -a tower that formed part of Jerusalem's walls during the Has- monean Dynasty in the 1st and 2nd centuries BCE. They also announc- ed the discovery of a white lime floor dating to the period of Solo- mon's Temple. JERUSALEM The discoveries were made by an archaeological team headed by Mrs. Ruth Amiran and Avraham Eitan of the Israel Museum. The tower remains were found inside the Citadel, a structure near the Jaffa Gate dating back to Roman times.. The excavations are being studied to determine how far west Jerusalem extended during the era of the First Temple. Remnants of the city have been found to the west and south of the Temple Mount. Arrangements for the visit of the unit were worked out through Rabbi Bernard Weinberger, reli- gious consultant for the Williams- burg Y, Sol Levy, its executive director, and Harold Braverman of the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith.
