TAKE THE FAMILY
OUT TO DINNER AND A SHOW

64—Friday, September 12, 1969

THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

THE POPULAR BELIEF that
because a man makes a lot of
money he has a lot of brains,
creates a puzzle, as this story
shows. . . . A community gent re-
cently won a tidy sum of money in
Las Vegas on number 14. . . .
When asked how he figured it out,
he said. "I had a dream. One
night I saw in my dream a big 9,
and next I saw a 6, so I used my
brains and figured that 9 and 6 is
14."
DATE OF THE BIG Perfection
Masonic Lodge trip to Los Angeles
is Oct. 24 to Nov. 4. . . . The
visitation degree team that will
put on Master Mason initiation
work on Oct. 30 will be directed
by Dr. Jack Jackman.
JOYCE RUBIN, six-year-old
daughter of Janice and Hank
Rubin , was visiting her grandpar-
ents, Eva and Emanuel Stein, at
their farm outside Windsor . . .
Walking in the garden, Joyce saw
a peacock, a bird she had never
seen before . . . She gazed in ad-
miration at it, then ran into the
house crying excitedly . . . "Oh,
grandma! Come quick! One of your
chickens is in bloom!"
CALLING MARGUERITE KO-
ZENN CHAJES . . . remember
back in 1936 when you concertized
extensively in Palestine in spite of
the riots of Arabs which made
travelling dangerous . . . and you
expressed the desire to see the Old
City of Jerusalem? ... Friends in-
troduced you to a young British po-
liceman who had come formerly
from Vienna . . . He offered to
show you around, and only that
way was it possible for you to visit
the interesting places in the Old
City . .. In Mexico City 20 years
later in 1956, Marguerite, while
visiting friends Dr. and Mrs. Sig-
mund Bibring (he was president
of the combined Jewish communi-
ties in Mexico) you were invited
to an elaborate bar mitzva cele-
bration and sat at the tablej of the
Israeli minister and members of
his legation .. Its first secretary,
Yerachmiel Yaron, looked some-
how familiar to you . . . and the
course of your converation with
him revealed why. ... He was the
young police officer who had
guided you around Jerusalem back
in 1936.
IMPRESSIONS OF community-
ites is a secret art of cab driver
Jack Goodman. . . . Ask him for

some—he's good!

FAREWELL ... to Joseph Woll
. . . a fine man, who recently
passed away in California . . . A
former Detroiter, Joe went
through life as few men do—enjoy-
ing people and making no enemies
. . He was a good person .. . So
long, Joe.
AL DUBIN of Debonnair Clean-
ers in Oak Park whose reputa-
tation of cleaning Talitim free of
charge for individuals just as his
father used to do is of community
note, has another unsung esteem
very few people know about . . .
He's considered a cleaner's clean-
er . .. "If AI Dubin can't get the
spot out," said one, "nobody can!"
NEXT TIME YOU hear Cantor
Hyman Adler sing outside of con-
gregational 'services at Cong. Bnai
David, ask him to reel off some of
the melodies in his vast repertoire
of songs . . . His renditions of
"Song of the Vagabond" and "Old
Man River" among others are
pleasant standout sounds to the
ear.
Best wishes to all for the holi-
days from son Scott and ourselves.
