Dingell Calls on World Opinion as 3,New Executions Take Place in Iraq i LONDON (JTA)—Iraq executed three more of its nationals—none of them Jews—Monday as alleged spies for Israel and the United States. According to Baghdad radio, the latest victims were Pri- vate Mohammed Rabah Haidar of the Iraqi Army, who was shot by a firing squad, and Ambarkhud Al-Karam and Amis Abbas, civil- ians, who were hanged. The broadcast gave no details of the charges nor was there any indication that the three had stood trial. Their execution brought to 54 the number of alleged spies executed by Iraq this year, among them 11 Jews. Fifteen civilians and soldiers including two Jews were executed in Baghdad on Aug. 15. ing the noon hour in Dag Ham- I marskjold Plaza near the UN. Wishes . Mourns . _ (In Washington. State Depart- ment officials Monday voiced shock and dismay over the execu tions. They said that the additional executions were a source of grave concern following the recent critic- ism by Secretary of State William P. Rogers that earlier killings were repugnant to the conscience of mankind. The State Department had officially described previous executions as "blood baths.") Congressman John D. Dingell. Democrat from the 16th District (Dearborn). issued a statement in which he called the Iraqi "spy' executions "outrageous." "It is too bad the world has been too busy to pay much atten- tion to the recent execution of al!eged spies in Iraq," Rep. Din- gell said. "Moslems. Christians and Jews have been the victims of sham trials and secret purges which out- rage Western notions of justice. The United Nations would do well to focus international attention on the medieval tyranny which passes or government in Baghdad," he declared. "The United Nations has chosen to inquire into the status of Arab peoples under Israeli control, but as yet it hasn't taken note of the sorry condition of Jews and other minorities in Middle Eastern countries the Arabs control," Rep. Dingell said. The international president of Brith called on Western B nai leaders to intensify their protests against Iraq's "unconscionable de- fiance of civilized conduct" in con- :Inuing its secret spy trials and executions. Dr. William A. Wexler, of Sa- vannah said that any relaxation n efforts to halt further "closed door trials and executions" would encourage Iraq to proceed with its "brutal terror tactics." He said the West must utilize all available hannels. The Rev. John L. Regler, asso- ciate general secretary of the Na- tional Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., has called upon the United Nations to in- vestigate immediately "the execu- tions that have taken place with uncivilized brutality" in Iraq.
