Rabbi Philip Frankel stands before the religious monument
erected recently at the new Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, East Lansing.
Created in Jerusalem from two tons of bronze, the 18-foot high sculp-
ture stands outside the building, facing the altar. Aharon Bezalel, the
sculptor, traveled from Jerusalem to supervise the placement of the
monument which, in the form of an arch, depicts the Hebrew people
standing on the ground kit their hands reaching up to the skies. On
top is a menora. The monument was formally dedicated Aug. 22 at a
regular Friday evening service. Rabbi Frankel and Cantor Bruce
Wetzler officiated.
