Second Selihot Service Set at Temple Israel

Temple Israel will inaugurate
the high Holy Day season with
Selihot services Sept. 6 in the tem-
ple.
Last year nearly 1.000 attended
the first Selihot service in the his-
tory of the congregation.
According to Dr. Leon Fram and
Rabbi M. Robert Syme. the service
was re-instituted in Temple Israel
to meet the growing needs of a
more tradition-minded member-
ship.
Temple Israel has pioneered

among Reform congregations in
bringing back many previously
discarded traditions which have
beauty. relevance and meaning to
modern-day Jews. the rabbis said.

"Can Judaism Meet the Chal-
lenge of Today's Youth" will be
the theme of the annual Religious
School Teachers' Institute to be
'held 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sept. 7
at Temple Israel.
Speakers will be Rabbi M. Rob-
ert Syme of Temple Israel and Dr.
Elliot Luby of Lafayette Clinic.
In addition, there will be grade-
level workshops and a special He-
brew workshop.

The opening of the New Year Season of High
Holy Day Worship, Religious School, Hebrew
School, Adult Education Classes and other edu-
cational, cultural and social programs.

1. The High Holy Day Services, beginning with
Rosh Hashana Eve, Friday night,• Septem-
ber 12.

2. The Religious School opens at the Temple
and at Lederle Public School, in Southfield,
on Saturday morning, September 20, and
Sunday morning, September 21.

3. The Hebrew School opens at Lederle School
in Southfield on Tuesday afternoon, Septem-
ber 23.

All unaffiliated families who wish to worship with us on ■
Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, and all who wish to en-
roll their children in our Religious School (Beginning
with Pre-Kindergarten age 4 and continuing through
High School) and Hebrew School to prepare for Bar
