THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
SAM DICTOR IS MAKING a vow
—not to come to Detroit again (he
says it all the time) unless he can
sec more of his old friends. . . -
Sam and Lil always feel bad when
they leave because time hasn't al-
lotted them the opportunity to see
more of the people they know. .
However, no stay here by the popu-
lar former Detreiters living in Los
Angeles would be long enough—so
they shouldn't fret . . . Their mul-
titude of friends and acquaintances
understand . . . Sam and Lil were
here recently with Sid and Pauline
Stoller from California to attend
a wedding and as usual. time just
ran out.
MARINE SGT. SANFORD
GREENBERG. son of Ruth and
Irving Greenberg. is back after P
years in Vietnam . . . fill
up on some of mother Ruth's good
cooking and then report on Aug. 29
to Camp Pendleton. Calif. . . .
Sandy's Oak Park buddy, Phil
Raskin, is at Camp Evans in Viet-
nam.
GET WELL WISHES TO . . .
courageous lass Jo Ellen Blum-
berg. daughter of Ethel and Ben
Blumberg, recently operated on at
Providence Hospital.
MORDECHAI ADLER. former
sexton and asst. cantor at Bnai
David Synagogue who left July 1,
was recently interviewed over the
phone to conduct High Holiday
services in Panama . The inter-
viewer asked Mordechai to sing.
which he did and was hired right
then and there.
ALVIN S. GOLMAN, finishing a
two-week stint at Camp McCoy.
was promoted from the rank of
captain to major in the C.S. Army
Reserves.
"THE COMPLETE JEW" . . .
that's what Moe Brand•ine said
when installing Max Sosin as presi-
dent of the Bnai David Synagogue
. . . .He is the only man I know
who started at the bottom, worked
his way to the top and did so
without making any enemies . . .
Over 300 people. including a large
host of non-member friends of
Max, jammed Bnai David to see
the culmination of 25 years as a
member whose humanitarianism,
Judaism. learnedness and ability to
conduct services, to say nothing of
his being in Cantor Hyman Adler's
choir for 10 years, are not nearly
as well-known as Max's reputation
of being Detroit's leading comedy
story teller.
CALLING DICK AND SANDRA
SCHRAM - . - Remember back in
Sept. 1955 when you wanted to get
another peek at your new home-to-
be but had no key? . . . Dick
lifted Sandra through the window
so she could open the door ... The
police came and it took a bit of
convincing on both your parts that
it was your house being built . . -
especially since you weren't even
married! . . (Dick and Sandra
Blotner were wed in Oct., 1955).
CLIMBING INTO A barber's
chair, little Merle Gerson was
asked, "Well, young man," said
the barber, "how do you want your
hair cut today?" Merle looked
over to where dad Julian Gerson
was sitting reading a newspaper
and replied, "I want 'em cut like
daddy's, with a hole on top."
We must find our duties in what
comes to us not in what we imag-
ine might have been. — George
Eliot.
