LAMP REMODELING' AND REPAIRING MADE TO ORDER Sanford Kleiner, vice president of the Chemical Bank of New York, also reports that the ''historic underutilization" of Jews in man- agement positions, although much diminished, still persists. But this, he adds, is because many Jews are still skeptical about entering the field "because of the image that has been created by offending companies and indus- , tries." Based on studies and his ex- periences as a personnel officer, Kleiner finds that more and more Jews are moving into "management pipeline s," as major industries, on the hunt for executive talent, have turned af- firmative about recruiting Jews. Many firms, Kleiner writes in "Careers in Corporate Managt, - ment," a career guide published this week by Bnai Brith Vocational , Service, are vigorously encourag- ing Jews to join their management ranks. Kleiner cites Bnai Britb's Anti- Defamation League and its Hillel Foundations, the former for estab- lishing cooperative workshop pro- grams with many firms to educate their personnel staffs on the career D aspirations of Jewish youth, and the campus group for its assistance in college recruitment programs. The career guide is available' 0 from Bnai Brith Vocational Serv- ice, 1640 Rhode Island, N.W., Wash- ington, D.C. 20036. STARLIGHT, Pa. — Bnai Brith Young Adults has issued a call to congregations of all three branches of Judaism to elect young people as full voting members of synago- gue boards of directors and social action committees to help reverse "the flight from religion by ideal- istic young Jews." A resolution approved at the BBYA's 24th international conven- tion at Camp Bnai Brith declared many potential young leaders shun the synagogue because they believe Jewish adults are not "sufficiently concerned" with critical social problems or are unwilling to work with young people "to build a bet- ter world." Youth participation in synagogue policy-making bodies, the BBYA maintained, "could help strengthen the synagogue's commitment to •causes that deeply concern young people today." Pam Gewirtz, 20-year-old stu- dent of Valley State College, San Fernando Valley, Calif., was elected president for 1969-70-,' the first time since 1951 that a girl has been so honored.
