JERUSALEM—Like most other
branches of industry in Israel, the
rubber and plastics industries en-
joyed considerable expansion dur-
ing 1968 with the help of Israel
Bonds. The over-all output in these
industries increased by 20 per
cent, with both employment and
exports also rising.
Production of all rubber products,
including tires, totaled 125,000,000
Israel pounds in 1968. nearly 16 per
cent above the previous year's
108,000,000 Israel pounds. Employ-
ment increased 6 per cent, to 3,500,
and exports rose by 20 per cent. to
42,000,000 Israel pounds, or $12,000,-
000.
The output of plastic products
last year was about 20 per cent
above that of 1967. totaling 120,000,-
000 Israel pounds. Of this total.
more than one-fifth or $7,500.000
were exported. representing an in-
crease of 36 per cent over the pre-
vious year. Employment rose about
5 per cent. to 3.000 workers. Much
of Israel's plastic products industry
is based on the use of the country's
natural resources which have been
developed with Israel Bond assist-
ance.

Miami Hospital Adding
Cancer Therapy Unit
MIAMI BEACH (JTA) —
The Cedars of Lebanon Hospital
has started construction of a 8500,-
000 radiotherapy building to house
a linear accelerator for treatment
of deep-seated cancers, according
to S. K. Bronstein. executive di-
rector. He said the facility should
be ready for use early in July.
He said shorter treatments of
such malignancies will be possible
through use of the deeper penetra-
tion. The patient will be alone in
a heavily-shielded room during
treatment which will be under
observation through closed-circuit
television by the attending doctor,
radio therapist and technicians.

redeeming his infant son by pay-
ing five pieces of silver to a Kohen
when the son is 31 days old.
The father. Sp 5 Harvey Flug.
approached Chaplain Sydney Hoff-
man. the Jewish chaplain at Ram-
stein AFB. with a request to ar-
range the Pidyon Haben. For a
week. Chaplain Hoffman looked all
over Europe for a Kohen.
His search ended at the Baum-
holder Army Base when Chap-
lain Nahum Cohen. a reserve
U. S. Army chaplain who now
lives in Israel, arrived for a

Chaplain Cohen began to prepare
for the ceremony. but was faced
with a major logistical problem.
The necessary silver dollars are
no longer in circulation.
The Kohen designee went to the
post office administered by the
25th Army Postal Unit and ex-
plained his strange search to sym-
pathethic postal clerks. He urged
them to question any customers
who ordered stamp-collecting mate-
rial to determine whether they also
collected coins.
The approach worked. Four sil-
ver dollars were rapidly located.
But time was running out. and it
seemed that the fifth silver dol-
lar would not be found. Chaplain
Cohen then mobilized the entire
chaplain's section in the frantic
search. Suddenly. one of the chap-
lain's assistants remembered that
a Protestant chaplain at a nearby-
location was a coin collector. A
quick phone call confirmed the
fact that the Protestant chaplain
did indeed have one silver dollar
in his collection.
An Army sedan was dispatched
to bring the precious coin to the
Baumholder chapel and Chaplain
Cohen then set out on the 35-mile
trip to the Ramstein Air Force
Base Chapel, where the baby boy
was properly redeemed. He slept
during the entire ceremony, una-
ware of the effort of the Army and
Air Force. which had made his
Pidyon Haben possible.
