Susan Marrich Bride THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
of Mr. Sidney Hantler NCJW to Create Factory Care Center
By BEN GALLOB
Industrialists in several cities are
being approached by representa-
tives of the National Council of
Jewish Women in bids for estab-
lishment on factory premises of
day care centers in an expansion
of the NCJW's long-standing pro-
gram of creating such centers and
providing volunteers to help operate
them as an anti-poverty project.
The goals of such centers include
helping to prepare pre-school chil-
dren from poverty areas for school
attendance and to give their moth-
ers a chance to seek and hold jobs.
according to Hannah Stein. NCJW
executive director.
Miss Stein noted that only one in
10 children now receives day school
care, a situation which affects both
education and welfare. She said the
NCJW will seek to create the cen-
ters not only in industry, hospitals
and churches, but also in aban-
doned houses and store fronts and
Sunday school classrooms. Such
sites are to be renovated and
equipped with funds raised by local
NCJW sections and from federal
and state agencies. She said con-
tributions in kind also would be
sought from the community. Fees
are minimal and depend on the in-
come of the working mother.
MRS. SIDNEY IIANTLER
Susan Terry Marrich became the
bride of Sidney Lawrence Hantler
in a recent ceremony at Temple
Israel. Rabbis Leon Fram and M.
Robert Syme and Cantor Harold
Orbach officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Marrich of Avon
Ln., Southfield, and her husband is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. David
Hantler of W. Ten Mile Rd., South-
field.
The bride wore a Galina gown
of Venice lace with an Italian
empire and mandarin neckline
Her head covering was a floor
length mantilla trimmed in
matching lace, and she carried
rosesyand Stephanotis.

sites for such care centers because
they are desperately short of per-
sonnel. The cooperating hospital
gets access to additional workers
because the day care centers free
mothers to work. One such center
is expected to be opened this sum-
mer in Kansas City at the Menora
Hospital. Negotiations are under-
way with hospitals in Boston and
Hartford for similar arrangements.
The Menora hospital has adjacent
property, including a house in
which two bottom apartments are
being converted into the day care
center. The local NCJW section is
providing most of the annual cash
budget of S15,000, as well as volun-
teers who will be working with the
professionals in the center. Guide-
lines for NCJW-sponsored centers
include a requirement that at least
one teacher be a professional.

FISH IN A BAG
Fish are the dieter's best friend.
They are loaded with protein, yet
have fewer calories than meat.
Eating fish does not have to be
boring. There is a big variety
and many ways of preparation.
Here is a nice way to prepare fish.
You put them in a "bag" of alu-
minum foil, or greased paper—and
bake them wrapped. This way the
fish retains its juices and comes
out moist and tender.
