United Hebrew Schools Accepts Registration for September Classes Albert Elazar, superintendent of the United Hebrew Schools, an- nounces that high school and Mid- rasha classes will be meeting this fall in the new Rohlik Building on 12 Mile Rd. and Murray Crescent, Southfield. This . building is the first of a campus complex on a five-acre site, which will include administration offices, community library and auditorium. High school and Mid- rasha classes will begin Sept. 10. The United Hebrew Schools, the Detroit Jewish community system of Hebrew schools, provides Jewish education from nursery through college by teachers who are certi- fied by the Detroit Board of Li- cense. The course of study includes Hebrew language, Bible, Jewish history, Jewish life, Israel, Jewish current events and the reading and understanding of prayers. Thirty new buses provide transportation from public schools in Detroit and suburbs. The UHS is accepting registra- tion for fall classes for all stu- dents of the elementary depart- ment. The five-year requisite for graduation and Bar Mitzva re- quires that students be enrolled in a Jewish school when they are lar part of the program. The Southfield branch will meet in the Beth Achim Congregation building on 12 Mile Rd. between Lahser and Evergreen. This school will be operated jointly by the UHS. The program will include kindergarten, first, and second grades through the regular five- year Hebrew school and confirma- tion. Five-, 6- and 7-year-olds are eligible for kindergarten, first and second grades. Regular Hebrew school enrollment starts at age 8. To serve the Farmington area, the UHS will continue to meet in the Fairview Public School in the 12 Mile Rd.-Middlebelt vicinity of Olde Franklin Towne. This branch will be cooperatively sponsored by Adas Shalom Congregation and the UHS and will be called the Adas Shalom School. Two-hour Sunday ' morning classes will be held. for kindergarten, first and second graders. Regular Hebrew classes will meet three times weekly for two hours each day. The announcement was made by U.S. Maccabia team captain Robert E. Rosenberg of New York. Prof. Katz represented the U.S. in swimming at the 1957 and 1961 Maccabia Games and won gold medals in the 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter medley relay. She also was a member of the 1964 U.S. Olympic synchronized swim- ming team which performed in Tokyo. Mike Allen of Palo Alto, Calif., the Big 10 butterfly champiost from the University of Michigan, has withdrawn from the U.S. swimming team, which will par- ticipate in the games. the games. Wexler, presi- dent of Bnai Brith, declared in an address to 2,000 delegates at the 117th annual session of Bnai Brith district 3. He criticized "ambitious politic- ians" who rushed to offer bills "like lollipops to appease the frus- trations of an adult society that ap- pears unwilling to make the hard effort to understand its youth and wants only to quiet them, by force if necessary."
