former Mayor Robert F. Wagner, a
one-time favorite of Jewish voters,
and two Jewish candidates, Rep.
James H. Scheuer and writer Nor-
man Mailer.
Marchi defeated incumbent May-
or John V. Lindsay whose 1965 vic-
tory over Abraham D. Beame, a
Jew, was attributed in large meas-
ure to his heavy Jewish support.

Betty Goldin, a member of Bnai
Brith and Shaar Hashomyaim Syna-
gogue in Windsor, died Sunday at
age 59.
Mrs. Goldin, 1647 Victoria, was
born in London. Ont. She leaves
her husband, Irving; a son, Mar-
vin; a brother, Ben Matthews;
three sisters, Mrs. Marshall (Ju-
dith) Soskin of Toledo, Mrs. Ray
Sumners of Miami and Mrs. Albert
(Ida) Ellenson of Detroit; and three
grandchildren.

ported. Crown Heights, the Rock-
aways and Brighton Beach have
heavy concentrations of Orthodox

Jews.

Berlin said that the Post discern-
' ed a break in the traditional Jewish
liberal pattern of voting last year
when certain Jewish neighborhoods
in Queens and Brooklyn gave a
sizeable minority-25 per cent-to
Conservative Party candidate
James Buckley in his Senatorial
race with Sen. Jacob Javits, in-
creased," Berlin wrote.
