Monument at Machpela
Commemorates Martyrs

Eighteen plexiglas columns, de-
signed as a monument to the Jew-
ish martyrs were dedicated last
week in Machpela Cemetery, Flint.
Set in three rows of six columns

in a cement slab, the monu-
ment is on the highest ground in
the cemetery. New York artist Mon
Levinson built the structure, which
was paid for by the perpetual care
fund of the cemetery.

Hospital Orients Students THE DETROIT JZWISH HEWS

LOS ANGELES (JTA)—A record
105 students will receive instruc-
tion in a variety of medical pro-
grams this summer at the Cedars-
Sinai Medical Center in the second
year of a program for career
development and medical research
which begins this month.
The students receive instruction
in the technical sciences, medical
sciences, hospital management,
nursing and other medical center
activities.

of doctor of divinity to Rabbi
Moses Lehrman, of Cong. Bnai
Moshe. Rabbi Lehrman, a semi-
nary alumnus, has served 21
years and was granted life ten-
ure in 1963. The degree was
granted to Dr. Lehrman at the
seminary's 75th commencement
exereses June 8 at the Park
Avenue Synagogue in New York
City. Also honored at the com-
mencement was Hazzan Louis
Klein, cantor at Bnai Moshe,
who was installed as an honor-
ary fellow of the Seminary's fel-
low at the Seminary's Cantors
Institute.

Frank Garland, owner and opera-
