Kne-sset to Hold
Full-Scale Debate
on Bias in USSR

JERUSALEM (J T A) — T h e
Knesset, in a virtually unanimous
vote, decided to hold a full-scale
debate on the plight of Soviet Jew-
ry. No votes were cast against
debate but one Communist mem-
ber abstained.
The debate was proposed by
Haim Landau of the Gahal (Herut-
Liberal alignment) and was sup-
ported by Foreign Minister Abba
Eban. Speaking in the chamber,
Eban recounted the long history
of Soviet Russia's attitude toward
the Jews, from the days of friend-
ly relations with Israel in 1947 and
1948 to an abrupt change in atti-
tude when the Kremlin began to
support the Arab cause. Eban
said that Moscow's anti-Israel
stand quickly became a general
anti-Jewish attitude. He said that
as a result, Soviet Jews were de-
prived of jobs and restricted in
various educational institutions. He
noted that no physical attacks have
been made; on Jews in Russia be-
cause the Kremlin is fearful of
world public opinion.
