president of the Synagogue Coun-
cil of America. He succeeds Rabbi
Jacob Philip Rudin of Temple
Beth El. Great Neck, N.Y.
Rabbi Sharfman, 51, is a grad-
uate of the Yeshiva Chofetz
Hayim and Columbia University.
He formerly served as president
of the Rabbinical Council of Amer-
ica.
The Synagogue Council of Amer-
ica serves as the national co-
ordinating agency for the congre-
gational and rabbinical branches
of Conservative. Orthodox and Re-
form Judaism in the U.S.
