ENTERTAINMENT NIGHTLY AFTER 2 A.M.

THE POPULAR EXPRESSION,
"Using your head to make money,"

was never more appropos than with
the story about 4,-orralne and Max
Green, local men's wear fashion

leader . . . About 15 years ago.
while coming back from their
honeymoon (she was Lorraine
Deutsch) in Miami, a truck hit
their car on the highway, and her
head struck the windshield .
Wasn't serious, thank Heavens, but
the $1,000 insurance money was
put to very good use as the start of
something really big . . . Max was
then managing the Adam Hat store
on Woodward and Grand Blvd. ..
When the Adam company decided
to sell all their outlets here, Max
jumped in and put the insurance
money as a down payment on the
store . . . which became the first
of a successful chain known as
Max Green . . . Only six year::
later, he opened another store in
Eastland . . . and the following
year saw the opening of a Max
Green number three at Northland
. . . Two years ago, he had to
double the size of his Woodward
store . . . and last year, the Max
Green men's sportswear and ha-
berdashery store at Northland was
also doubled in size . . . From
Lorraine's head in 1954 and Max's
ambition that fired into his own
ownership on July 13, 1955, has de:
veloped one of the fastest growing
chains of men's wear in the city
. . . selling everything except full
suits . . . Max Green is truly a suc-
cess story.
IN SUNDAY SCHOOL class she
taught before returning here from
Is Angeles recently, Edith Rosen
tells of the children just finishing
studying the Ten Commandments
. . . On a written test, she asked
what is meant by the word "adul-
tery". . . One little girl wrote,
"Adultery is the sin of saying
you're older than you really are."
GET WELL WISHES TO Molly
Gross, home from University Hos-
pital in Ann Arbor after success-
ful eye surgery . . Hubby Harry,
after 14 years as editor of the Mau-
rice Zieger Bnai Brith Lodge Tri-
bune. and writer for even more
years of the popular column,
"Azoy Gates" (also a big Louis
Marshall Lodge feature for many
years prior) has retired from his
journalistic endeavors to devote
time to Molly and as a manufac-
turer's rep.
TERRY AND JANET Gladstone
agree that two heads are better
than one ... except, say the young
couple, when both are behind the
same steering wheel.
LOST AND FOUND DEPT. . . .
Elsie Rapoport is looking for the
owner of a 14-karat gold charm
bracelet she found May 27, on the
street in back of Masonic Temple
. . . It has six charms, one a Hai
and another with "Sol & Mary,
March 30, 1924" engraved on the
back . . . Contact Elsie at 353-1776
after 5:30 p.m., or UN 2-1776 dur-
ing the day.
CALLING RABBI LEO GOLD-
MAN . . Remember back in 1956
when Rabbi Hayim Donin asked
you to perform a bris for a Jewish
boy born on the naval base at
Grosse Ile? ... The navy man was
from Minneapolis, Minn., and a
letter recommended him to Rabbi
Donin in Detroit . . . It was the
first bris ever performed at the
base . . . and the naval gent's
name turned out to be as yours ...
