Czech Magazine Prints
Item on Jewish Mystics

LONDON (JTA) - The current
issue of the Czech magazine
• Slavia," dedicated to Slavonic
studies, carries an essay on the
influence of Jewish mysticism on
Aram Mickiewicz and other poets
and philosophers of the 19th Cen-
tury.
The article was written by Dr.
Samuel Scheps of Geneva, a bank-
er, author and Hebrew scholar,
who said that although the work
was commissioned before the Rus-
sian invasion of Czechoslovakia
last August, the essay appeared in
the Prague magazine as written.
The essay was written in Polish,
as all contributions to the maga-
zine appear in their original Sla-
vonic language.

Franc Devaluation Rumor
Stirs Israel Pound Price

TEL AVIV (ZINS)-Rumors that
France is about to devaluate her
currency had an immediate effect
upon the Israel pound.
The price of the dollar on the
black bourse in Lillienblum Street
rose from 3.50 pounds to 3.86
pounds for the dollar. A degree of
calm has returned within the last
few days: the price of the dollar is
now 3.82 pounds. However, the
transactions are light, so the
sources feel that in the event
France will decide to devalue her
franc, other European countries
will follow suit, and Israel will then
be compelled to lower the price
