After many years of serving na-
tive Detroiters and those who visit
this great city, Carl's Chop House
out Grand River way continues to
place A-1, delectable food before
their discriminating customers .
although the interior decor has
been changed more than once for
the greater relaxing pleasure of
the diners both the food and sery
ice remain tops.
Another fine eating place is
Chuck Joseph's Place for Steak,
also on Grand River, west of
Smithfield Road . . . the genial
hosting of owner Chuck Joseph—
never without a smile — plus the
delicious appetizers, drinks as you
want them and the general atmos-
phere of the place add up to a
very satisfying and pleasing ven-
ture for the most critical diner.
If you want to see some real
entertainment t hat you will
talk about for weeks after-
wards hie yourself down to Harold
Wigle's 24-Karat Club on Tele-
graph Road, just south of Mc-
Nichols and listen to the banjo

artistry of Eddie Collins ... Eddie.
originally signed for a two-week
engagement, has now finished
three months of a successful run,
and the end is not yet in sight .. .
In addition, the 24-K features
Harry Harris, 77-year-old singer,
whose first venture into show busi-
ness was as a partner to the fa-
mous Jimmy Durante, and Lenny
Shick, whose dance band is one of
the finest in the country . . . We
have heard a number of dance
bands, and a superlative in this in-
stance definitely is not out of
place . . . The food is in keeping
with Wigle's policy of serving only
the best.
Over at the Bourbon Street, also
on Telegraph near West Chicago
the musical duo of pianist Murray
Jackman and bassman Eddie
Heim have been making music to-
gether for nearly three years .. .
They may be seen and heard on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday
nights ... The Bourbon Street fea-
tures excellent prime ribs.
ODDITY: Two patrons of Dan-
ny's Hour Glass on West Mc-
Nichols, near Southfield, were pre-
sented with like-mannered barl-
point pens by their bosses . • .Each
made a pact with the other that
whenever they saw each other at
Danny's the pen had to be produc-
ed, otherwise the penalty was a
drink . • Four or five months
have now passed since this unique
pact was entered into and the
membership has now reached 15
. . . I happened to be present
(although not one of the members)
when 12 were in attendance and
alas, two of the members were
without pens ... It always pays to
carry your credentials, no?
How can one go wrong with an
offering of 42—FORTY TWO—
varieties of pancakes and waffles,
eh? . . . Well, at the Golden Grid-
dle Delicatessen and Pancake
House on Woodward Avenue, be-
tween 12 and 13 Mile Roads, that
exactly is one of the menu spe-
cialties, not forgetting the Famous
Key Lime Pie . . . If you have
never been there try the Golden
Griddle once and you will find it
to be a delightful eating experi-
ence.
