The move follows a recent visit to Israel by Profs. J. C. Catford, A. Guiora, H. Lane, and Hayim Paper to gather information and consult with their colleagues on the teaching of English in Israel. Envisaged is a program which may apply different disciplines, such as general and applied lin- guistics, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics, to the problems of language teaching. Possible areas of cooperation may include the exchange of academic staff and graduate students between the University of Michigan and Israeli institutions, joint research projects and summer courses. The visitors met with scholars from the Hebrew University, Tel Aviv and Bar-Han universities, officials of the ministry of educa- tion and culture, British and U.S. foreign staffs and the Educational Television Guest.
