108-Passenger Jet Put
Into Service by El Al,
Bringing Fleet Up to 9

TEL AVIV (JTA)—E1 Al, the
Israel national airline, has taken
delivery and placed in transatlantic
service its new Boeing-704 jet air-
liner with a capacity of 108 pas-
sengers. The new plane brings El
Al's Boeing fleet to nine. The air-
line was reported to be survey-
ing prospects for a new service
to South America either direct
from Lydda or through a sub-
sidiary airline operating from a
European capital.

Harry Litwack finally made it.
Head basketball coach at Temple
University for the past 17 years,
Litwack won his first post-season
tournament in 11 tries when his
Owls stopped favored Boston Col-
lege 89-76 in the final game of the
National Invitation Tournament in
New York City. Prior to its loss to
Temple, Boston had won 19
straight games. A superbly coach-
ed club, Temple finished the cam-
paign with a 22-8 record and was
co-winner of the ECAC Division I

Litwack, a 61-year-old grand-
father, has been associated with

coaching ranks. Brown, 28, a mem-
ber of the American Basketball
Association for the past two sea-
sons, will take over the job as head
coach of Davidson College next
season. Brown's only previous
coaching experience was as an

Shrugs Off Close Call

TEL AVIV—About 2,000 settlers
in the Jezreel valley watched Mon-
day as the daughter of Gen. Chaim
Bar-Lev, Israeli chief of staff, had
a narrow escape from death when
she took part in paratroop maneu-
vers.
Zohar Bar-Lev was in mid-air
when her main parachute would
not release despite two pulls of the
ring. She then pulled the safety pin
of the reserve chute, which open-
ed immediately.
She dropped smoothly to ground,
and when she touched down she
was asked how she felt during
those precarious moments high
over Israel.
"There was some deficiency,"
she said in a cool manner, "but I
overcame it."

Rule Out Sabotage
in Fire in Jerusalem
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Jerusa-
lem police ruled out sabotage as
the cause of the fire which gutted
the main Jerusalem transformer
station Sunday, cutting off electric
power and light from parts of the
city. The Knesset building and the
Hebrew University were without
electricity for several hours until
alternative supply lines were cut
in.
