Michael Peisner
2nd in National
Bible Contest
Michael Peisner, an all-A student
at the Hebrew High School, plac-
ed second in the national finals of
the 10th Bible contest held in New
York May 11. Some 120 teen-agers
competed.
Michael, a 10th grader at Berk-
ley High School, answered 47 out
of 50 questions correctly in the
intermediate Hebrew division; the
first-prize winner answered 48.
Not only did Michael win a $250
scholarship to a Hebrew-speaking
camp; because he was such a close
runner-up, he has been invited by
the Jewish Agency contest sponsors
to participate in the International
Bible Contest to be held in Jeru-
salem on Israel Independence Day
1970.
Winners of the national Bible
contest were New York area

Predicts 7,000 Americans
Will Settle in Israel in '69,
2,500 More Than in '68
JERUSALEM (JTA) — The
chairman of the Jewish Agency
Executive predicted that 7,000
American Jews will settle in Israel
this year compared to 4,500 in
1968. Louis A. Pincus told a press
conference that immigration from
the major Western countries was
expected to rise sharply this year.
He said immigrants from South
Africa would probably number
1,000 as against 450 last year des-
pite the economic upsurge in South
Africa. From Britain, he said, 2,000
immigrants were expected as
against 1.400 last year.
These figures, he said, were
based on the latest estimates and
a projection of actual immigration
during the first four months of
the year. The total estimate for
1969, he said. remained at between
35,000 and 40,000.
