REHOVOT — Fifty-six PhD de-
grees and 16 MSc degrees in the
natural sciences were awarded
to graduates of the Feinberg Grad-
uate School at the Weizmann Insti-
tute of Science.
Meyer W. Weisgal, retiring pres-
ident of the institute, presided.
The main address was delivered
by Prof. Michael Feldman, dean
of the Feinberg Graduate School
and head of the institute's depart-
ment of cell biology. Prof. Feld-
man, who is the Philip M. Klutz-
nick Professor of Developmental
Biology, discussed the need for re-
examination and reappraisal of
the curricula and teaching meth-
ods of higher learning.

The day before, a new Hebrew
textbook for high school chemistry
students was discussed at an all-
day workshop at the institute. The
textbook is based primarily on ex-
perimental work by students them-
selves, in the chemistry labora-
tories, and is being tested in a
three-year pilot project, under way
at some 20 high schools through-
out the country.
