Bartlett's Quotations, 14th Edition,
Emerges as Gigantic, Expanded Work j
The great Jon Bartlett classic
assumes new proportions in its
14th completely revised edition.
"Bartlett's Familiar Quotations,"
published by Little, Brown & Co.,
for the 14th time, is not only re-
plete with famous names of per-
sonalities, representing all nations,
all faiths, but also with an im-
mense number of added quota-
tions.
Biblical works are frequently re-
sorted to. Statesmen, writers, reli-
gious teachers, scores of authori-
ties on a variety of subjects are
represented here.
Jesus was a Jew. There is no-
thing that the ordinary Christian
dislikes to remember as this
awkward historical fact. But it
happens, none the less, to be
true."
And supplementing it is the ex-
cerpt from Yevgeny Alexandro-
vich Yevtushenko's "Babi Yar":
"There is no Jewish blood in
my veins, but I am hated with
a scabby hatred by all the anti-
Semites like a Jew. And there-
fore I am a true Russian."
There are several references to
Jews, as there are to Jesus, Jeru-
Jews, Judah, Zion, Israel, He- salem, Bethlehem and other such
brew, Hebraism, anti-Semitism—
these are a few of the subjects
of special interest in a single
field. These are representative
of other classifications.
Among the numerous quotations
from the Psalms is the 137th—
"How shall we sing the Lord's
song in a strange land? If I forget
thee, 0 Jerusalem, let my right
hand forget her cunning."
There are scores of famous say-
ings from Proverbs and Ecclesi-
astes in this volume.
On the question of anti-Semites.
Bartlett turns to John Haynes
Holmes (1879-1964), who, in "The
Sensible Man's View of Religion,"
stated:
"If Christians were Christians.
there would be no anti-Semitism.
India's Support of Arab
States Against Israel Seen
Contradicting Neutrality
NEW DELHI (JTA) — India's
support of the Arab states against
Israel was criticized by a group of
Indian parliamentarians at a sym-
posium here organized by an inter-
national study group of the UNE-
SCO Club. J. B. Kripalani, a So-
cialist leader, said non-aligned
countries should refrain from tak-
ing sides in international disputes
but India, which professes non-
alignment, has consistently favor-
ed the Arabs in their dispute with
Israel.
Kripalani said India had gone
out of its way to support Egypt
even after it had been established
that Egypt began hostilities in the
spring of 1967 by blockading the
Gulf of Aqaba. Prof. Balraj Mad-
hok, another MP, said that by tak-
ing sides in the Mid East conflict.

we?" he asked. He said Israel
