Campaign a Triumph ...Israel, U.S. Causes Aided

(Coitinued from Page 1)
Among ' the especially note-
worthy reports at the dinner
meeting was Mrs. Joseph Jac-
kier's as chairman of the wom-
en's div ision. Mrs. Jackier
announced that for the first time
the women exceeded the million
dollar figure by raising 91,018,-
605 from 9,174 contributions, with
more yet to be contacted.

In his address to the workers,
Jospey spoke of Detroit Jewry's
identification in major causes and
the solidarity with embattled Is-
rael. He commended the hundreds
of volunteer workers and expressed
gratitude to the thousands of con-
tributors who made the campaign
an outstanding success.
As president of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation, sponsor of the
drive, Hyman Safran paid a glow-
ing tribute to Jospey and his asso-
ciates who labored vigorously for
months to attain the campaign
goal. Describing the Federation's
role as Allied Jewish Campaign

sponsor, Safran said:
"Behind the campaign curtain
in Detroit are the agencies in the
fields of health, Jewish education
and culture, welfare and recrea-
tion. They provide the rounded bat-
tery of services required by a
modern sophisticated American
Jewish community. By so describ-
ing our community, I in no way
suggest that we have forgotten
traditions of the past. Indeed, our
Hospital, our Home for Aged, com-
bine the latest medical techniques
with our tradition of providing care
and shelter to those in need. Our
Fresh Air camp sites are part of
America, they provide a Jewish

environment for our youngsters.
Our Hebrew Schools and Center
develop a strong sense of Jewish
identity in our youth. These are
only some of the agencies sup-
ported through our campaign. It is
a mark of a progressive commun-

ity that their programs do not
stand still and do not accept the
status quo. We encourage them
to reach out for new programs,
better programs, programs that
meet the requirements of today "

who said that party morale had
benefitted from the "debacle" of
the rejection by the West German
cabinet of a proposal by Interior
Minister Ernst Benda that the NPD
be banned. He said another factor
had been the "positive response"
to the first NPD election newspa-
per which asserted had a distribu-
tion of more than 15 million copies.
He predicted that the NPD had
"good reason" to expect to win 40
seats in the September Bundestag
elections. Such a gain, it was noted,
could prevent formation of a coali-
tion between the Social Democrats
and the small Free Democratic
Party, while it would deny an
overall majority to the CDU.
Demands for the abolition of
the statute of limitation on Nazi
war crimes prosecutions were
voiced by West German trade
union leaders in speeches on May
Day. Many speakers criticized the
government for not seeking a con-
stitutional ban on the ultra right-
wing National Democratic Party
(NPD).
A local leader of the NPD who
quit the party charging it with
adopting "dictatorial methods,"
says that it poses no danger to
West Germany "because the NPD
is destroying itself." Heinz Bie-
mann, of Kiel, who was NPD area
manager for the state of Schles-
wig-Holstein, quit because he could
"no longer associate with people
who treat their members as stupid
and useless idiots and handle any-
thing their chairman does not like
in a dictatorial manner under the
table."

Dunlop on First 5 Cars at Monte Carlo Rally

You may not race or rally or even own a sports car, but whatever and
however you drive, you can do it better on the same kind of DUNLOP
quality that has led the way in so many important automotive competi-
tions through the years.
You can expect this from the world-wide company that invented the Pneu-
matic tire in 1888 and patented the radial tire in 1914.
