Growing drug use among Jewish
teen-agers has spurred many Jew-
ish centers to undertake programs
to help such young people, and
Jewish centers generally should
do so, according to a National
Jewish Welfare Board official who
made a survey on the problem.
Moe Hoffman, JWB Washington
representative, told a regional
JWB convention in Boston that, in
accordance with a unanimously-
approved JWB public affairs com-
mittee proposal last June 26, Jew-
ish centers were polled on their
reactions to drug abuse, drug edu-
cation and information.
He said that of 71 centers re-
sponding, 66 reported that the
drug problem was of "significant
interest" to them.

Czech Writer Praises
Israel as Garden of Eden

PRAGUE (ZINS)—An enthusias-
tic article on Israel has just been
published in the Prague literary
weekly "Listy," official organ of
the Czechoslovak Writers' Union.
The author, Pyotor Rudazilov,
attempts in this article to explain
the Arab-Israeli conflict in the
light of what really happened,
without anti-Semitic and Soviet
embellishment.
Rudazilov writes: "Within 21
years, the Jews have transformed
their small and charming country
into a real garden of Eden under
the sky, a paradise which many
begrudge them and would like to
destroy and reduce to ashes and
dust. But I assure you, my read-
ers—that the Jews will fight and
will not allow the enemies to de-
stroy what they have built with so
much joy."
