Task Force Appeals
for Support of State Tax
Reform to Aid Schools

Mrs. Irma Wertz, president of
the Detroit Council of PTAs, and
Mrs. Maxine Rose, chairman of
the Metropolitan Task Force on
Education, have repudiated action
by the Senate Education Commit-
tee in reporting out the governor's
proposal for state aid legislation.
They described the proposal as
"dangerously inadequate and in-
equitable for the support of public
education in Michigan next year."

Passage of this proposal will
require an increase in local pro-
perty taxes. "The governor's
proposal completely fails to at-
tack urban problems by provid-
ing even less money for urban
schools next year than the hope-
lessly inadequate funds this
year," the women charged.
