Egyptian President Nasser's implied threats of a new
phase in the Middle East conflict, Israel's demolition of
in Egyptian radar system, contradictory reports about
an increasing number of casualties inflicted upon Israel,
grave concern over the existing situation expressed by UN
Secretary General U Thant to the Secretary Council and
unending border clashes marked the struggles that seem
to have postponed hopes for peace between Israel and the
Arab states. The situation as it emerged from events of
the past two weeks appeared to escalate dangers and to
increase war threats. •

NEW YORK (JTA)—President Gamal Abdel Nasser
of Egypt characterized Monday the current Egyptian
bombardments of Israeli troops at the Suez Canal as the
second phase of a military plan preliminary to the
"liberation" of the Sinai Peninsula.
The bombardments have been undertaken, he said,
after the buildup of Egyptian defense forces at the canal.
The Egyptian head of government presented his posi-
tion on a number of key issues in the Mid East dispute
during an hour-long television interview seen in New
York City. It was filmed April 19 in the presidential

WASHINGTON (JTA)—The El Fatah guerrilla organization is receiving financial, moral and
political support from extremist groups in the United States and has had "considerable success in
mobilizing extremist support here," the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith revealed Monday.
Money and propaganda support have been provided to El Fatah since it launched U.S. activities
in 1968, Arnold Forster, ADL general counsel, told the organization's 56th annual national com-
mission meeting here. Supporters include the 10,000-member Organization of Arab Students,
groups of the Communist "old left," New Left radicals and some black extremists and revolution-
ary organizations, he said. El Fatah maintains headquarters at the offices of the Palestine Libera-
tion Organization at 801 Second Avenue, in New York City, he said. The office is reportedly di-
rected by Saadat Hassan, said to be a longtime Arab propagandist in the U.S.
Forster said that an El Fatah publication entitled Free Palestine is being sold on a subscrip-
tion basis through a Washington, D.C. post office box. Funds are being raised under Palestine
Liberation Organization auspices, throughout the U.S., by Fatah representatives Abram Abdul
Majeed and Yosef Hanafi, identified as Palestinians. El Fatah emissaries are also engaged in fund-
raising in Canada and Latin America. The major targets for money have been New York, Wash-
ington, Houston, Los Angeles and Detroit, Forster said.
The ADL said that El Fatah activities have received substantial and favorable treatment
in the Black Panther, official publication of the Black Panther Party, and Muhammad Speaks,
organ of the Black Muslim movement led by Elijah Muhammad. Last Jan. 4, the Panther,
which ran three pro-El Fatah items, published a

'Join Hands With Israel' Demonstration
Sunday to Honor Israel's 21st Anniversary
' Simultaneously with celebrations marking Israel's 21st anniversary being held in
thousands of Jewish communities throughout the world, the Detroit Jewish community
will mark Israel Independence Day 2:30 p.m. Sunday at a
"Join Hands with Israel" demonstration on the grounds of
the Jewish Center.
An address by Ehud LaDor, Israel consul for cultural af-
fairs for the Midwest, will be the guest speaker. Cantor
_Harold Orbach will lead in the singing of the national an-
thems.
Representatives from the Jewish War Veterans and Jew-
ish Youth Council of Detroit will participate in the presenta-
tion of the colors. Avern Cohn, vice president of the Jewish
Community Council, will extend greetings on behalf of the
local community. Lynn Medow, chairman of the Jewish
Youth Council, will speak on behalf of the council.
After the formal program, there will be refreshments
for the youth and a musical festival of Israeli songs and
dances by local youth- groups.

__•--LaDor has been with the Israel ministry of foreign affairs since 1967. Prior to his
current appointment, he served as chief emissary of the Israel kibutz movement in
thy United States and also has served as the Jewish Agency representative in Australia

The annual Independence Day celebration has been a joint effort of the Jewish
community Council and Zionist Council since the re-establishment of the state of
1948.

Allied Jewish Campaign Divisions
Inaugurate Telethon Pleas Sunday
A telethon by workers during the final two weeks of the 1969 Allied Jewish
Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund has been announced by the campaign chairman,
Maxwell Jospey.
A battery of phones is being set up at the Butzel Building, 163 Madison, and at
the Jewish Community Center for the workers to use in contacting prospects who
have not yet been reached for their 1969 pledges.
The mercantile division, under the leadership of Benjamin H. Frank and Warren
D. Greenstone, will be telephoning Monday, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.,
in the Butzel Building. On Tuesday, May 6, they will be working from the Jewish
Center, 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Alan Nathan, chairman of the metropolitan division, announces that his workers
will be phoning from the board room of the Jewish Center, Sunday, 10 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. Mrs. Julius Ring is chairman of the Metropolitan's telethon.
Other division chairmenwho have announced telethons for the first week in May
are George M. Zeltzer, real estate and building; Daniel M. Honigman, mechanical
trades; Harvey Weisberg, food service council; Dr. Eli M. Brown, professional; Allan
Nachman, junior division.
In a special plea to all campaign workers, Jospey said:
"As the campaign nears its end, we must make a concerted effort to contact the
remainder of our prospects. Our response thus far has been magnificent, but we
cannot let up in our labor to make this year's campaign the great success of which
we will all be proud."
The final report luncheon of the campaign will be 12:15 p.m., Monday, in the
auditorium of the Fred M. Butzel Memorial Building. The meeting will be held jointly
with the JeWish Welfare Federation board of governors. This will be the last report
meeting before the victory dinner.
Certificates of appreciation for superior achievement will be presented at the
luncheon to section leaders who have attained 100 per cent or more of last year's
dollar total in their section.
The victory dinner of the 1969 Allied Jewish Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund
will be May 7 at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Zadok and Alfosso, Israeli musicians, will
perform.
