Congressmen Ford, Nedzi Oppose
Imposed Peace in the Middle East
Congressmen Gerald R. Ford
and Lucien Nedzi, in statements
addressed this week to Louis Pa-
nush, president of the Zionist Or-
ganization of Detroit, expressed op-
position to any plan for an impos-
ed peace on Israel.
In his letter, Rep. Ford wrote:
"I firmly believe that U.S.-
Middle East policy must be
against any 4-power imposed set-
tlement. There must be a final
accord agreed to by the parties
directly involved, including recog-
nition that Israel is and will be in
the future a free, permanent
state. The U.S. must maintain the
military combat capability of Is-

hardware needs."
Rep. Nedzi stated: "I share the
view that the best hope for endur-
ing peace in the Middle East lies
in direct negotiations between Is-
rael and the neighboring Arab
states."
Sponsors of the resolution adopt-
ed by the Oakland County Board
of Supervisors condemning in-
humanities in Iraq received re-
plies of assurance of a strong
U.S. stand against the act from
the State Department, the U.S.
delegation to the UN and members
of Congress.
