Centers Pledge to Shun Black Extremists, Continue Efforts in Urban Crisis

NEW YORK—A key group of 50
professional and volunteer leaders
of Jewish centers and YM-YWHAs
has reaffirmed the determination
of their agencies to continue ef-

This was the position taken by
the participants in a two-day con-

Jewish Welfare Board (JWB) at
its headquarters.
General agreement was ex-

tributing to the urban crisis
affect all elements in American

society and that therefore every
group must try to effect changes
necessary to eliminate poverty,
substandard housing and un-
equal educational opportunities.
A series of 12 guidelines to help
centers and YM-YWHAs be more
effective in coping with problems
and issues in the urban crisis was
outlined by Sanford Solender, JWB
executive vice president, in sum-

The guidelines included:
• Clarification of the center's
role in the urban crisis as integral
to its basic Jewish purposes and
