DR. BELKIN TO THE GREATER DETROIT JEWISH COMMUNITY:
As we approach -the Passover hOlidays, I deeply • appreciate the opportunity to
express for myself, and on -behalf of Yeshiva University, wholehearted greetings to
our friends in Greater Detroit.
We are gratefully aware of the enduring interest of the Greater Detroit Jewish
Community which reveals a nobility of vision that gives strength and encourage-
ment to Yeshiva University as it continues to add more and more to the nation's
progress in the arts, sciences, humanities and medicine, and enriches the spiritual and
cultural values of our people.
I welcomed with gratification the news that the Detroit Friends of Yeshiva
University will honor the esteemed and eminent jurist, United States District Judge
Lawrence Gubow, at their Fourteenth Annual Dinner on June 25th. His dis-
tinguished career in service to the nation and to the community surely merits the
Yeshiva University Award, our highest accolade for voluntary leadership in the cause
of higher education.
Passover marks our people's deliverance from Egyptian bondage three thousand
years ago. But in its deepest sense, it celebrates man's eternal struggle for free-
dom. Today, at a time of immense changes,—but also at a time of turmoil and
tribulations, man must equally strive for inner freedom within his own nature, the
can fulfill his spiritual destiny.
