Israelis Debunk
Picture of Besieged

JERUSALEM—Jerusalem is not
another Saigon. Despite isolated
terrorist bombings, Jerusalemites
feel safer in their streets at night
than do residents of New York
City and Washington, D.C.
Israeli government officials fear
that too many Americans are be-
ginning to equate Israel's situation
with that of Vietnam. The Arabs
are striving to create such an
equation. Arab propaganda re-
quires an illusion of unrelenting
civil war and rampant strife. This
prompts the Four-Power drive for
hasty Israeli withdrawal without
an appropriate peace settlement.
It would reconstitute the situation
that existed prior to June 5, 1967,
and lend momentum to a drive for
the total elimination of Israel.
Police statistics recently dis-
closed that one's chances of
falling victim to assault, rob-
bery, or murder are at least 10
times greater in American
inner-city situations than in Is-
rael.

We pray, that with the Al-

all of us in Vietnam be enabled to
