GOOD COMPANY

Try to stay in the company of
the great and learned; behave
modestly in their presence. Do not
weary them with your tongue. The
more you talk, the more mistakes
you make. Do not be ashamed to
ask questions, but do so at the
right moment. Ponder every word
before you speak, for it cannot be
recalled.
—Maimonides' Mishna Tora

Homeowners again may delegate
the power of attorney to Rabbi
Jacob Kranz to perform the mit-
zva of "selling the hametz," ac-
cording to a legal contract. drawn
up for Rabbi Kranz, of Cong.
Mishkan Israel.
The document conforms with
the precept that a Jew must sell
all leavened bread remaining in
his home before the Passover holi-
day begins. Tradition provides,
however, that the homeowner may
hide away all hametz and transact
a symbolic 'sale" of the bread
with a non-Jeiv. For this, a rabbi
acts as intermediary for the mem-
bers of his congregation and after
the holiday, the non-Jew "returns"
the bread to the seller.
Rabbi Kranz said the mitzva
is often neglected because it is
considered inconvenient. For this
reason, he sought the legal
assistance of several attorneys,
who drew up a "Delegation of
POwer of Attorney for Sale of
Hametz."
The legal form, which has been
used successfully in New York and
other cities was tried two years
ago the first time in Detroit. It
provides for the homeowner to
merely fill in his name and grant
Rabbi Kranz the "full authority
and power" to sell the hametz
"and to lease said place or places
wherein said hametz may be
found upon such terms and upon
such conditions as he, in his abso-
lute discretion, shall deem fit and
proper."
Rabbi Kranz stressed that the
unleavened products will remain
in the individual's home, although
hidden away. There is no cost, but
the form must be returned prior
to the day before Passover.

Eshkol Memorial Is Set

and the Zionist Council of Detroit.
