Sarah Markowitz, a life mem-
ber of Mizrachi Women, died
March 14 at age 83.
Mrs. Markowitz, a native of
Poland, was a member of Pisgah
Chapter, Bnai Brith, the Denver
League and Hadassah. She resided
at 13342 LaSa 11 e, Huntington
Woods.
Her survivors are her husband,
Samuel; two sons, David and Marc
Markey; a daughter, Mrs. Frederic
(Pauline) Lee; six grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.

Max Newman, a founder of
Cong. Adas Shalom and co-owner
of Warren Iron and Metal Co.,
12455 Greenfield, died Sunday at
age 68.

Mr. Newman, 19546 Cranbrook,
was a member for 50 years of
the Institute of Scrap Iron and
Steel and was a 32nd degree
Mason, in Mosaic Lodge. He also
belonged to Pisgah Lodge, Bnai
Brith. Born in Poland, Mr. New-
Isadore Mendelson,

Detroit Librarian

Sidney Goldstein, a librarian
with the Detroit system nearly 25
years, died Monday at a sister's
home in New Jersey. He was 55.
Mr. Goldstein worked at the
Main Library, Parkman and Hub-
bard branches and helped organ-
ize the libraries of the J ewish
Center and Temple Israel.
He was at one time a member
of the Center library board. Cur-
rently with the language and liter-
ature department at the Main Li-
brary, Mr. Goldstein was doing
research on antique children's
books and was completing an an-
thology on science fiction.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Gold-
stein was reared and educated in
New York. He was a graduate of
City College of New York and
Syracuse University's librar y
school.
Survivors are three sisters, two
nieces and one grandnephew, all
of the New York area. Interment
New York.
