continued a long friendship with
Annenberg's son, who will be the
first U.S. Jewish envoy to Great
Britain, and his seven sisters. He
had befriended their mother, who

passed away a year ago, and one
of the Triangle Publications vice

presidents, Joseph First, now also
president of the Jewish Publica-
tion Society of America.
The friendship between Gold-
berg and the Annenbergs be-

came so deep-rooted that in

1936 they gave the Detroiter the

ding present.
Walter Annenberg and Goldberg
share many interests, among them
devotion to the activities of Yes-
hiva University. Annenberg has
befriended the president of Yes-
hiva University, Dr. Samuel Bel-
kin, and one of his major gifts was
one for $1,000,000 to the Einstein
Medical College of Yeshiva Univ-
ersity.
Among the recent gifts of Annen-
berg and his seven sisters was an
$8,000,000 fund towards the new
Sinai Medical Complex in New
York. He contributed $1,000,000 to
the Israel Emergency Fund in
1967.
In addition to heading the Tri-
angle Publications, Annenberg is
editor and publisher of the
Philadelphia Inquirer, whose
editorial policy has been consis-
tently friendly to Israel.
Founder and president of the
Annenberg School of Communica-
tions at the University of Penn-
sylvania, Annenberg has headed
many charitable endeavors. Last
month he gave $50,000 to Dropsie
College in Philadelphia to broaden
the manuscript research conduct-
ed by Dropsie's president, Dr.
Abraham Katsh.
He is the recipient of many
honors, among them the Philadel,
phia Federation of Jewish Agen-

ship and respect Walter H.
Annenberg's dedication to pub-
lic duties, I am elated over his
appointment because I know he
will be, a great credit to our
country and to the Jewish peo-
ple," Goldberg said.
Goldberg prizes a message he
received from Annenberg, on the
occasion of one of the dinners he
managed in behalf of Yeshiva
University, in which the ambas-
sador-designate said: "Over the
years you have clearly demon-
strated that which is the most im-
portant thing in life — considera-
tion of others . . . You have
amply proved that you under-
stand this philosophical ap-
proach."

Home for 350 aged Jews—many
of them refugees from lands of
persecution, many with no finan-
cial means to exist elsewhere—the
United Aged Home in Jerusalem is
in finfincial trouble and has issued
a plea for funds to maintain its
services.
Rabbi Jacob Hoberman, 17377
Indiana, has undertaken to conduct
a campaign locally to assist the
home, which he claims will close
without funds.
The original United Aged Home,
built 85 years ago in the Katamon
section of Jerusalem, was replaced
by a modern complex in Jerusa-
lem with cardiology and neurology,
medical and occupational therapy
departments and a synagogue.
Communal social halls and a
library also are provided at the
nursing home-hospital, which
offers a sheltered workshop, coun-
seling and guidance, as well as
training facilities for nurses, phy-
sical therapists and social workers
in modern methods of old-age
care.
The home is run in cooperation
with the Israel Ministry of Social
Welfare, but is not a direct reci-
pient of United Jewish Appeal
funds, said Rabbi Hoberman.
