New Task Force on Education Draws Attention to Public Schools' Distress As the result of a recent meeting with state legislators on the ques- tion of the mounting public school crisis, the newly created Metro- politan Task Force on Education is mobilising grass-, . roots support for state aid under the leadership of ' Mrs. Stephen Rose, chairman. Mrs. Rose, who heads the Na- tional Council of Jewish Women's legislative c o m-_ A j. mittee f or the Mrs. Rose Detroit Chapter, said the task force must convince the general public of the urgent problems con- fronting Michigan's public schools and to that end will offer literature and/or speaker to any group re- questing it. A Detroit mother of three, Mrs. Rose emphasized that this is not Detroit's problem alone. Suburban school districts have their prob- lems too. "And suburbia has the power to do something about this," she said. "Our state repre- sentatives will act toward sound fiscal educational reform only when they are made aware of the public's demand for it" She urged individuals and or- ganizations to write the repre- sentatives from their district to urge legislative action for the state to assume some of the school's financial harden. Without this, and without re- form, "Thousands of our children are being confronted with the pos- sible danger of only half-day ses- sions and inadequate facilities." For a speaker or copies of the task force's "Guidelines for Financing Public Schools in Michigan," call Mrs. Rose, 342-5514. The task force is a coalition of some 30 commu- nal, professional, religious and educational organizations.
