THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 20—Friday, March 21, 1969 Has Annual Event SERVICES SYNAGOGUE The role of the Vaad Harabonim —Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit—and of Merkaz was stressed Sunday at the annual dinner of the Vaad at the Statler- Hilton Hotel, attended by almost 500 guests. Toastmaster Irwin I. Cohn, who also served as general chairman of the 31st banquet committee, was presented with an illustrated silver-covered Hagada "for his un- tiring efforts on behalf of the Vaad." The presentation was I made by Julius Rotenberg, the dean of the Vaad Harabonim pa- trons. Judge Lawrence Gubow, presi- dent of the Jewish Community Council, extended greetings on be- half of the Council, and Rabbi Lei- zer Levin, president of the Vaad spoke of the Vaad Harazonim as "guardians of our Jewish heri- tage." He appealed to those as- sembled to take an example from their "Jewish brethren who reside in Israel and be strong of heart, steadfast in our faith in the Eter- nal God of our fathers and un- moved in our complete trust in Him." Rabbi Leizer Levin recently returned from a trip to Israel. Nathan Sober m an extended greetings on behalf of the Vaad sponsors and patrons. Guest speaker, Rabbi Berel Wein, spiritual leader of Cong. Beth Israel, Miami Beach, spoke on the role of Israel among na- tions; and of the "4,000-year-old dream of Israel, which is being fulfilled in our time." A musical program in Hebrew and English was presented by Cantor Hyman Adler of Cong. Bnai David and accompanied by Mrs. Bella Goldberg.
