Young Israel to Install
Rabbis Saturday Night

Rabbi Leizer Levin, president of
the Council of Orthodox Rabbis,
will bring Council greetings to the
installation ceremonies of Rabbi
Joshua S. Sperka and Rabbi Sam-
uel H. Prero 9 p.m. Saturday at
Young Israel of Greenfield.
Ceremonies will be preceded by
a melave malka. David I. Ber-
ris, a founding member of the
Young Israel movement in Detroit,
- will be master of
ceremonies. Dele-
gates represe n t-
ing the other
branches of the
Young Israel
movement in
metropolitan De-
troit will be pre-
sent, as well as
friends of Rabbi
Sperka and Rabbi
Berris
Prero.
The National Council of Young
Israel will be represented by its
executive vice president, Rabbi
Ephraim H. Sturm, who will be
guest speaker.

Rabbi Joshua Spiro has been
appointed coordinator of the local
Hinukh Atzmai—Tora Schools for
Israel—Committee.
Hinukh Atzmai maintains 250
schools in 115 communities in
Israel. With a total enrollment of
45,000 students, they receive an
allocation from the Israeli govern-
ment, but must raise enough to
cover the balance of the budget.
The curriculum is similar to the
type of program offered by Jewish

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Cohan of
Nine Mile Rd., Oak Park, will cele-
brate their 50th wedding anniver-
sary on March 17. A family dinner
is planned in their honor. •
The Cohans, who have resided in
the Detroit area since the early
1920s, are planning a golden anni-
versary trip to Israel the latter
part of March.
Mr. Cohan, who owned a. clothing
