Rabbi Robert Marx of Chicago Due at Memorial to Wise Rabbi Robert J. Marx of Chi- cago, will pai, tribute to the mem- ory of the founder of American Re- form Judaism, Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, at the 150th anniversary observance of the latter's birth 7:30 p.m., March 16 at Temple Israel. It was Rabbi Wise who, in 1873, organized the UAHC as the first Jewish religious body in the Unit- ed States and subsequently found- ed the Hebrew Union College and the Central Conference of Amer- ican Rabbis. Rabbi Marx is director of the UAHC's Chicago Federation and Great Lakes Council. A native of Cleveland, he was ordained at the Cincinnati campus of the HUC. Prior to assuming his present post in 1962, Rabbi Marx held pulpits in Buffalo and Stamford, Conn., and was the first regional director of the UAHC Ohio Val- ley Council. He holds a PhD de- gree from Yale University. Active on all levels of social and civic activity, he has taken a lead- ing role in bringing the commit- ment of Judaism to inner city problems in the Chicago area, and has worked on many boards and commissions dealing with inter- religious and interracial affairs, mental health and capital punish- ment. The program will include a can- tata, "A Song of the Wise," pre- sented by the children's and adult choirs of Temples Beth El, Emanu- El, Israel and Beth Jacob of Pon- tiac. A new narration has been written for the cantata by Mrs. Robert A. Coggan, chairman of the evening. The community is invited at no I charge to the program and recep- tion. Rabbinical Leader, Ralph Simon, Airs U.S. Jews' Future Rabbi Ralph Simon, spiritual leader of Cong. Rodfei Zedek of Chicago and president of the Rab- binical Assembly of America, will - address the final session of the Ada Shalom adult study institute on "The Future Faces the Jew," 9 p.m. Tuesday at 4. the synagogue. Rabbi Simon, a native of Newark, was ordained at Rabbi Simon the Jewish Theo- logical Seminary of America. Since arriving in Chicago, he has been active in many communal and phil- anthropic activies. He is past presi- dent of the Council of Conservative Rabbis and of the Chicago Board of Rabbis, and has served on numer- ous commissions and committees both on a local Chicago level and on a national Jewish level. He was a founder in 1947 of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin. In 1959, Rabbi Simon was honor- ed by the creation in his name of the Ralph Simon Chair in Jewish Ethics and Mysticism at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and in 1964 he was given an honorary degree of doctor of divinity.
