`Inspector Rose ' Great for Children Ben Shecter is a master story- teller, and on top of it he draws well. As writer and artist combined he has produced a children's mas- terpiece in "Inspector Rose," pub- lished by Harper & Row. Rose Birnbaum is the heroine of this tale. She is the mother of a detective, and in pursuance of her son Bernard, to whom she brings the traditional chicken soup, she finds herself embroiled in a sleuth- ing act. That's where the fun begins. She becomes a detective, gets to a cir- cus, begins a search for missing clowns and actors, and in the course of her successful search meets up with many interesting experiences. By way of illustrating and nar- rating the Detective Rose Birn- baum story, Shecter emerges the splendid artist-writer. In the process, the reader has the joyful tour of a circus, meets up with tricks in which Inspector Rose is a heroic participant. There are the lions and the fat lady and all the fun that goes with the cir- cus and its entertainers. Ben Shecter adds gloriously to his career as an artist, additionally enhanced by his narration, with "Inspector Rose." Naturei Karta Proposes United Front With Arabs JERUSALEM (ZINS) — Leaders of the extreme Orthodox Naturei Karta have contacted militant Arab nationalists in an effort to form a "United Front" to combat the Zionist state, the Israeli press reports. The leaders of this group, Rabbi Amram Blau and his "foreign minister," Leibele Weisfish, have declared here that they are con- templating a meeting with the French consul general, to express their sharp protest against the Zionist attacks upon General de Gaulle. De Gaulle, Rabbi Blau contends, is a "friend" of the Jewish peo- ple, because he attacks the Zion- ists. Last week, the leaders of the Naturei Karta met with the for- mer defense minister of Jordan, Anvar Gusiba, now residing in Old Jerusalem.
