"Bernard Isaacs is a born
short story writer . . His
gaze is profoundly penetrat-

is like a pebble . thrown
into the water; the pebble
sinks and rises ... creating

These photos show some of the drama enacted in the Zurich
airport, where four Arabs attacked an El Al airliner. The top photo
shows the plane on the runway after the shooting, and the middle
photo shows one of the assailants lying dead in the snow. Beyond,
is their car, in which was found a small arsenal of guns. The woman
and two of the men (from left) Amina Dahbour, Abdel Mohsem
Hassan and Mohamed Abu el Haja were apprehended. Ibrahim Tew-
fik (right) was killed.

African Sultana Aboard Plane in Athens' Attack

JERUSALEM — One of the
passengers on the ill-fated El Al
plane who miraculously escaped
.with her life when it was attacked
by Arab terrorists in Athens was
the Sultana Ramdo Aja, the wife
of the Sultan of the Cameroons.
The Sultana was on her way
home to the Cameroons, which is
neutral in the Arab-Israeli dispute,
after undergoing a successful op-
eration for some gynecological ill-
ness at the Hadassah-Hebrew Uni-
versity Medical Center. The Sul-
tana is the 20th of the Sultan's
26 wives.
Dr. Elizabeth Podkaminer, an
Israeli doctor, visited nine coun-
tries in Africa to attend the medi-
cal needs of the Israelis serving in
these lands. While in the Cam-
eroons, she was invited to the
Sultan's palace and met the Sul-
tana: Dr. Podkaminer recommend-
ed that the Sultana should fly to
Israel for an operation inHadassah.
The operation was successfully
performed by Prof. Wolf Zeev Poli-
shuk, head of Hadassah's gynecol-
ogy department, and, after con-
valescence, the Sultana left for
home on the El Al plane.

A `Horrifying' Act

WASHINGTON — The United
States and British governments
speedily condemned the Arab ter-
rorists attack on an Israel airliner
and the State Department stressed
that the attack lent "new urgency"
to international efforts to safe-

guard civil aviation. The State De-
partment condemned and deplored
the terrorist action which it called
a senseless act. The British
Foreign Office expressed condem-
nation of the outrage and termed
it "horrifying."

Committee for Humanity in Iraq: a

Birchers See Red Plot
in M. E.; Rap Zionists

NEW YORK (JTA)—The right-
wing John Birch Society sees the
present crisis in the Middle East
as the result of a Communist con-
spiracy to force Arabs to surrender
their freedom and sovereignty in
exchange for Soviet assistance.
The current issue of American
Opinion, an official organ of the
Birchers, holds that "international
Zionists," with the aid of the U.N.,
established their state in Palestine
by driving out 1,500,000 Arabs
from their homes.
The Opinion says that "the
Arabs are convinced that they
have no choice but to seek Soviet
help . . . In short, Russia engineer-
ed the recent crisis so as to fur-
ther alienate America from the
Arab world and to lure Egypt,
Syria and Jordan into humiliating
defeat. Thus Egypt and Syria
would be compelled to maintain
their alliance with the Soviets, and
pressures _could be applied among
Palestinian refugees in Jordan to
end King Hussein's flirtation with
( Si
the United States."
