sectarian, self-supporting and self-
governing movement, in 41 states
and three Canadian provinces.
Mrs. Fleischmann stated in her
explanation of the progress attain-
ed through the Recovery move-
ment: •
"Recovery does not offer diag-
nosis, treatment, advice or coun-
seling, and it does not supplant
the physician. Each member is
asked to follow that authority of
his own physician as part of his
training.
"Dr. Low established that pro-
fessionals may attend meetings
to observe, but they may not
participate unless, of course,
they are nervous or former men-
tal patients themselves. This only
strengthens and preserves the
self-help aspects of the meetings.
"Recovery does not recom-
mend any particular physician,
psychiatrist or other profes-
sional."
An appeal has been issued by
Mesdames Serling and Fleischman
to local synagogues and other pub-
lic institutions for meeting places
to enable them to enroll more par-
ticipants in their movement, in ar-
ranged panel discusisons and dem-
onstrations. They said more than
30 Detroit Jewish women already
have been enrolled as Recovery
