Freud, a son of Sigmund Freud,
founder of psychoanalysis, died
Jan. 24 at age 77. A graduate of
the Vienna Technological Insti-
tute, he settled in Germany after
World War I, but after Hitler's
rise to power, immigrated to
France.
He came to the United States in
1943 and after teaching structural
design, worked for 13 years as a
research engineer for the Budd
Co. in Philadelphia. His sister, Dr.
Anna Freud, operates a clinic in
London for emotionally disturbed
children, and his wife is a painter.

Old Work Rights, Benefits

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The sen-
iority rights and other benefits
accumulated by Arab civil serv-
ants in East Jerusalem under the
former Jordanian administration
will be credited to them by the
Jerusalem municipality, the Jeru-
salem Civil Servants Union an-
nounced.
East Jerusalem civil servants
who join Histadrut, Israel's labor
federation, will be eligible for elec-
tion to the Civil Servants Union
when balloting is held next March.

Two Noted Yiddish Writers Dead;
Aleph Katz, of JTA ; Leon Feinberg

NEW YORK (JTA) — Morris
Abraham Katz, Yiddish poet, es-
sayist and a Yiddish editor of the
Jewish Telegraphic Agency for
more than 40 years, died Jan. 22
after a long illness. He was 70.
Born in Mylnow, Russia, Mr.
Katz came to the United States in
1913 and attended City College of
New York. He joined the JTA in
1925 and retired last year. He
wrote a number of books of Yid-
dish poetry and essays, and a
number of plays. He was a mem-
ber of the Yiddish Writers Union,
the Farband Labor Zionist Order,
the Yiddish Dictionary Commit-
tee, YIVO, the Congress for Jew-
ish Culture, the Jewish Pen Club
and other organizations. He was
the recipient of the Congress for
Jewish Culture Award in 1955 and
other awards for his Yiddish writ-
ings.
Mr. Katz first attracted atten-
tion with descriptions of the
Bowery in New York City and
with alliterative poems for chil-
dren. His published books includ-
ed "A Mayse fun Yam" (A Tale of
the Sea, 1925); "Akertzeit" (Plow-
ing Time, 1929); "Dos Telerl fun
Himel" (The Saucer from Hea-
