THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, January 31, 1969-39 Danny Raskin's LISTENING P 0 S T CHECKER BAR-B-a) RIBS • CHICKEN • SHRIMP Delivered "HOT" — UN 4-7700 20050 Livernois, Just South of 8 Mile ENTERTAINMENT NIGHTLY AFTER 2 A.M. IT WAS LIKE A spring day as the Women of Jewish National Fund thronged over 1,000 women at their annual donor tea recently . . Temple Israel never looked so good as the gals came dressed in all colors of the rainbow and cast much illuminating brightness . And the hats—every size and shape imaginable . . . It was like ! a sneak preview of styles to come this spring ... and the gals looked real good in their many fashions and colors . . . As usual, Norman Cottler of Dexter-Davison Mar-1 kets was there . . . "I'm closed I today," he said. "Everybody is here!" . . . JNF Women's Presi- dent Belle Levin, welcoming the big crowd, thanked husband Bill I with, "Now I can give him back the telephone." . . . Following Gol- die Adler's fine address as honor- ed speaker, the audience was ex- tremely pleased by the musical performance of Marci Lyn Rose, a I very talented young lady .. . The JNF lassies are really something! ! . . . Last year they raised $55,000 and this year set a goal of $60,000 . . Report given by Fund-Raising chairman Ruth Chanin gave the amount raised for 1968 at $75,000! MICHAEL FOX WAS a bit downhearted at his 11th birthday party . . . Mother Dolores told him she couldn't get his blue bike in time . . . She needed more chairs and had Michael go out to the shed for them . . . Suddenly lightening struck in a joyous flash! . . . There was Michael's new blue bike so brilliantly beautiful with its pretty yellow ribbons . . . a sight he'll never forget . . . "Boy, will I get the customers now!" cried a happy paper boy Michael Fox. STEPPING INTO A suburban - taxicab in Royal Oak, last week, Martha Steinberg told the driver her address in Detroit . . . The driver swung out into traffic . and at the same time asked, "Do you want the radio, lady, or should we just talk?" WHY ORGANIZATIONS book dates without clearing them with the Jewish Community Council is beyond comprehension .. . Every- body loses out when more than one like affair is held on the same night . . . As example a recent dance given by two unmarried groups . . . Both suffered in atten- dance since folks not only split their allegiance but stayed away altogether so as not to create ill feelings . . . The Jewish Com- munity Council's calendar is a very important asset and should be availed of at every opportunity! BIG CROWD IS expected at Ra- leigh House, Feb. 9, for Installa- tion Dinner-Dance affair of the Year by Knights of Pythias, De- troit Lodge #55 ... For those last minute reservations call Minnie Mackie, 544-7553. CAN'T THINK of any, but there must be some occasion that Bebe Denby doesn't know about . . . She sends out cards by the oodles to friends wishing them well and never forgets ... If she knows you, regardless of the holiday or occa- sion, you can bet your last dollar there'll be a card in your mailbox from Bebe Denby. THANKS TO EVERYONE for the Happy Birthday send our way . . the many cards, congratula- tory messages, well wishes and kind gestures. Alban's aMilit==== TRY OUR SANDWICH TRAYS BOTTLE & BASKET 188 N.
