By Danny Raskin

KEES R O O Z E N (pronounced
Case Rozen) is the pleasant, con-
genial host at Mario's in Windsor.
where the food is excellent and the
service a pleasure . . . His interest-
ing dishes are widely noted . . . As
example, nowhere in this area
other than Mario's of Windsor can
you get Nassi Goreng (pronounced
Nassi Gooring) . . Its an exotic
Indonesian dish with an elegant
taste that literally makes a per-
son's taste buds tingle with excite-
ment . . . Baked rice, peanuts,
pieces of shrimp, etc. are topped
by a fried egg and served with
special pickles . . . or every so
often, with delicious deep-fried
bananas . . . Nassi Goreng is the
elegant dish brought back to Hol-
land by the Dutch who were work-
ing in Indonesia when it was part
of the Dutch colonies . . You'll
enjoy the dramatic ecstasy of gour-
met eating when you have Nassi-
Goreng at Mario's of Windsor . .
But let Kees know you're coming
4
an hour or two in advance so it
can be prepared for you . . . Roast
prime ribs of beef is the specialty
I at Mario's of Windsor . . . and
• itis estimated that 10 whole
prime ribs of beef are used daily
1 at the fine dining spot on Ouellette
Ave. . . . The succulent prime ribs
of beef is sliced and served as you
like it from an electrically heated
wagon . . . By the way, to make
sure your lady has a flower when
dining at Mario's of Windsor, call
in reservations before 4 p.m. on
the day you'll be there . . . A
flower will be presented with his
compliments to each lady in your
party by host Kees Roozen.
DON'T BELIEVE ANY of that
• stuff about Dick Lichtman, boss-
man at Northgate Delicatessen in
man
Oak Park, having a heart attack

. . Its nice for so many folks to
• Call offering help on Dick's so-
1 called ticker-trouble, but he's on
▪ the job feeling fit as a fiddle . . .
▪ Dick is 30 years old and never
I even had his tonsils out . . . which
▪ if he did, would be the first time
• he has ever been in a hospital!
POWERS AND HUGHES at the
Afterglow Lounge on W. Mc-
Nichols, are a boy and girl sing-
ing team with the vivacity of show
biz new blood flowing in their
veins . . . They're a good-looking
couple, with a youthful song styl-
ing ability that pleases the ear
with a stimulating freshness.
JULIE'S ON W. 8 Mile Rd. just
east of Lahser, serves the finest
veal parmigiana I've ever eaten ..
This is truly authentic Italian home
cooking . . . Words are hardly
enough for this little place that
you can easily miss if you drive
by too fast . . . The only thing
outstanding about it is the food
. . . Nothing elaborate, but clean
as a whistle . . . No watered
spaghetti, or soggy pizza, and
those barbecued ribs are something
else! . . - Julie's is the kind of
place you hear about, but never
know where it can be found . . .
and best of all, its right in our
backyard on the Northwest!
HARRY JARKEY AT the 24
Karat Club has been around a
long time, and for an old pro like
him to get disgusted it only makes
for the fact that we're all human
. . . Harry was in his big comic
number on the first show last
Thursday . . . and was just about
to deliver his punch line when a
customer known in the community
walked slowly across the stage in
a complete act of ignorance . . .
Harry is a fine comic and had the

audience in stitches . . . It must
also be said that the sheer stupid-
ity of the community-ite deprived
Harry's audience of hearing the
ending to an excellent joke with
the upsetting of his polished rou-
tine.

WAYNE COCHRAN AND the
C.C. Riders finish a two-week stint
at The Moon Supper Club this
weekend, but have been such a
record-breaking smash that he has
signed to return with them in
March for another two-week en-
gagement . . . Opening night was
the beginning of much bedlam
that rocked The Moon's founda-
tion with his audiences clapping
hands and stomping feet in rhyth-
mic delight . . . Upstairs in the
Lunar Lounge, Tony, Sam and The
Tartans are getting better every
time I see them . . . Their poise
and delivery are highlighted by a
good solid show business want-to-
please, which is ever so very im-
portant.
