DORA FISHMAN, 18203 Mrs. Prince, Israel Women's League Honorary President NEW YORK — Mrs. Jane G. Prince, honorary president of the Women's League for Israel, an office to which she was elected for life after having served the organization as president for 25 years, died in her heme here Jan. 7 at age 73. Mrs. Prince's interest in the establishment of a Jewish state dated back to her childhood. In 1925, her father, Elias Gottfried, headed a group of Ameri- can citizens who chartered and fi- nanced the "Pres- ident Arthur," the first all-Jewish ship flying the Zionist flag with Mrs. Prince the Star of David,manned by Jew- ish seamen, to leave New York on a round-trip passenger run to Is- rael. The primary destination of the passengers was Mt. Scopus, where, on April 1, 1925, they par- ticipated in the formal dedication ceremony of the Hebrew Univer- sity of Jerusalem. It was in the home of her father that the first parlor meeting in this country was held for Dr. Chaim Weizmann. Besides the Women's League for Israel, Mrs. Prince served on the boards of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, the Fed- eration of Jewish Philanthropies, the Jewish National Fund and the Women's Division of State of Is- rael Bonds.
