New French 'Maze! Toy' Film "Mazel Tov ou Le Manage" is the French title of a new motion picture made for world-wide re- lease by Allied Artists Pictures. It received rave reviews at its Paris premiere earlier this month and will be distributed throughout the United States under the more fa- miliar title of "Marry Me! Marry Me!" "Mazel Toy" is the second film in Claude Bern's trilogy of French middle-class Jewry. Bern, still in his early 30s, made himself a name with his short "The Chick- en," a whimsical childhood re- membrance netting him an Acad- emy Award a few years ago. Then followed his first segment of the trilogy, "The Two of Us," dealing with a Jewish boy who unwittingly is being protected against Nazi terror by a crusty old peasant (Michel Simon) who outwardly has proclaimed his anti-Semitic lean- ings. "The Two of Us" was also based on Berri's own experience during World War II when as a child he was hidden in a remote village. "Mazel Toy" deals with the fur- ther exploits of Berri as a young man who becomes romantically in- volved with the pampered daugh- ter of a wealthy Belgian diamond dealer. The parents, at first, inter- fere with the marriage plans of their spoiled offspring and the son of a plain French worker. But as the English-language title, "Marry Me! Marry Me!" reveals, a Mazel Tov is appropriate at the end. Claude Berri portrays himself (certainly not an off-beat casting) with Elizabeth Wiener as the Bel- gian girl. Others in the cast include Louisa Colpeyn, Gregoire Asian, Prudence Harrington and Betsy Blair (the latter formerly Mrs. Gene Kelly). * • • Melinda Marx, the young daugh- ter of 73-year-old Groucho (Julius) Marx, married earlier this month MOVIE GUIDE ADAMS Grand Circus Park Free Parking after 5 p.m. WO 14525 RESERVED SEAT ENGAGEMENT Anthony Quinn, Oskar Werner in "THE SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN" FRI.
