Metropolitan Detroit Bnai Brith
Blood Bank will process its 17,-
000th donor at Pepper School, Oak
Park, 10 p.m.
Now in their 18th year of the
blood bank, the 25 Bnai Brith
lodges and 25 chapters in the area
have amassed one of the finest
records in the country.
The 17,000th donor will win a
vacation for two in the Bahamas.
Additional prizes will be awarded

Bnai Brith Blood Bank chair-
men are Henry J. Cohn and Selma

Ba rry Greenberg to Take

are accounted for in the univer-
sities' extensive branches, exten-
sion services, etc. MSU, for ex-
ample, has the largest extension
service. Oakland University, which
has a large Jewish student body
but is not listed separately in the
catalogue, is probably included
here as an affiliate of Michigan
State University.)

Northern Michigan University
at Marquette has a "Jewish Or-
ganized Youth" group on cam-
pus for its 50 Jewish students,
as well as an approved counsel-
ing center. There are no Jewish
facilities.

The Jewish student population
figures in the guide are more of
an approximation than an actual-
ity. Many students do not state
religious preference upon entering
the institution. Although the guide
states, for example, that 2,355
Jewish students attend the various
divisions of Wayne State Univer-
sity, it is believed there are more
than 3,000 on campus alone.

PORTLAND — The Bnai Brith
Anti-Defamation League here is

urging state legislators to support

a bill to be introduced by State
Sen. Peter Mills that would act
against discrimination by private
clubs.
Sen. Mills intends to introduce a
measure which would deny to a
private club a state liquor or food

license if the club bars members
on religion or race grounds.
Dr. Benjamin Zolov of Portland,
ADL area chairman for Maine
and vice chairman of the New

England regional ADL boar d,
said the organization had investi-
gated and found private clubs in
the Portland area which discrim-
inate.
ADL has sent telegrams to the
legislative leadership urging bi-

lel Foundation, with approved
counseling center, and credit
courses in Judaic studies. They
have, in addition, use of synago-
gue and cultural facilities in the
home community.

Other institutions in urban cen-
ters also have the benefits of com-
munity facilities although the cam-
pus may have no Jewish organiza-
tion of its own. For example, the
University of Detroit, with 175
Jewish students, and Detroit Insti-
tute of Technology, with 120 Jewish
students, have Wayne Hillel avail-
able to. them, as does Highland
Park Community College, with 260
Jewish students.
Western Michigan University at
Kalamazoo (146 Jewish students)
has its own Bnai Brith Hillel coun-
selorship, which also is used by the
42 Jewish students at Kalamazoo
College, a Baptist-sponsored insti-
tution.
Eastern Michigan University at
Ypsilanti (400-500 Jewish students)
uses the Ann Arbor Jewish facili-
ties and Hillel house at U-M. How-
ever, .Central Michigan University
at Mount Pleasant is 26 miles from
the nearest Jewish community, in
Midland. There are no campus
facilities for the 100 Jewish stu-
dents.
Ferris State College at Big
Rapids has 85 Jews, a special stu-
dent group (Bnai Israel) on cam-
pus and a congregation in the ad-
jacent community, as well as
several in Grand Rapids.
