Tensions in Israel Among Jews to Be Aired at Institute Adas Shalom Adult Study Insti- tute, continuing an exploration of tensions within Israel, will hear George Gruen discuss problems be- tween Jews of different cultures, 9 p.m. Tuesday at the synagogue. Gruen is a member of the for- eign affairs department of the American Jewish Committee and lecturer on international relations at Columbia University. A gradu- ate of Columbia College, he re- ceived his MA and certificate of the Near and Middle East Institute from Columbia University. He also holds a degree of bachelor of He- brew literature from the Jewish Theological Seminary and has done advance study at Columbia's de- partment of public law and govern- ment, majoring in international relations and law. He has traveled extensively in the Middle East, most recently following the Six- Day War. He has written many articles and essays and has ap- peared frequently on radio and television. Dropsie Sponsors Apocryphal Texts PHILADELPHIA — The publica- tion of "Jewish Apocryphal Litera- ture," recognized as one of the most important and scholarly proj- ects of the times, will be continued by Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning. Dr. Solomon Zeitlin, Horace Stern Profesor of Rabbinic Law and History at the college, will continue as editor-in-chief for this major literary project; and Dr. Abraham I. Katsch, president of the post-graduate institution, has been elected chairman of the newly constituted editorial board. The new editions and transla- tions planned under the general title of "Jewish Apocryphal Litera- ture" will restore the scriptures known as the Apocrypha and Pseu- depigrapha to their proper position in Jewish literature. These scriptures, while not re- garded as inspired or authoritative, were the product of that twilight period in early Judaism between the closing of the canon of the He- brew Bible and the dawn of Chris- tianity.
