Negev Picnic Grounds, Groves Set Up by JNF

ETLAT — A picnic-ground for
ramblers and travelers at the side
of the Arava Road near kibutz
Yotvata, the first of its kind in the
Arava, has been set up by the
Jewish National Fund.
Naturally-growing acacias pro-
vide shade at the spot, and outing
equipment (tables, benches, water
taps, fire-grates) has been installed.
This is the first of six picnic
grounds which will be prepared by
the JNF along the Arava Highway,
thereby enabling weary drivers -to
rest in the shade and alleviate the
long journey to Eilat.
In cooperation with the Ayalot
Regional Council, the Keren
Kayemeth Leisrael is currently

planting small groves by the
roadside, along the 43-kilometer
stretch between Yotvata and
Eilat, in an attempt to relieve
the barren Arava landscape.

Open New England Office as Israel Aliya Center

BOSTON—The Israel Aliya Cen-
ter opened its 10th regional office
here according to an announce-
ment by Avraham Frank, director
of the Israel Aliya Center, 515 Park
Ave., New York.

The groves, which consist mainly
of acacias, tamarisks and eucalyp-
tus trees, demand irrigation during
their first five years and are
fenced-off, in order to prevent dam-
age by wandering camels and
deer.

E11 Wagner, former resident di-
rector of COMOI — Committee on

Manpower Opportunities In Israel
—has been appointed director of
the office.

Wishing you a peaceful,
prosperous New Year

I would like to take this festive occasion to thank all my friends
for having been privileged to serve them in the City of Southfield.

To date, eight such woods have
been planted and, should the ex-
periment meet with success, simi-
lar groves will be planted along
the entire length of the Arava high-
way.
