Dennis Helfman to Take
Alyce Sukenic as Bride
MISS ALYCE SUKENIC
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sukenic of
Sorrento Ave. announce the en-
gagement of their daughter Alyce
to Dennis Helfman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jerome Helfman of Clover-
dale Ave., Oak Park.
Miss Sukenic is a senior at the
University of Michigan, where her
fiance is a graduate student.
A June wedding is planned.
Israeli Teen Science Bugs
Tour Weizmann Institute
REHOVOT—The Weizmann In-
stitute hosted 600 Israeli high
school students at a series of
lectures on advanced scientific
work, tour of the Institute's lab-
oratories and tribute to the win-
ners of Israel's sixth Science Fair.
The lectures, held annually under
the auspices of the Israel Asso-
ciation for the Advancement of
Science, the ministry of education
and the Weitzmann Institute were
onened by Prof. Amos deShalit,
head of the Institute's newly crea-
ted department of science educa-
tion and initiator of the Science
Fair.
Prof. deShalit challenged his
youthful audience to join the
scientists who would by tackling
mankind's central problems in
the last third of the 20th Cent-
ury. There would be dramatic :
advances, he said, in desalin- '
ation, birth control, computer-
ized translation, the development
of new materials, inform ation
retrieval and the transplanta-
tion or replacement of organs in
the human body.

With the apperance of the 18-
year-old Russian pianist GRIGORY
SOKOLOV at Masonic Auditorium,
8:20 p.m., Jan. 25, audiences will
be treated to a performance of
some of the most challenging and
colorful of the works of Haydn,
Schumann, Chopin and Ravel. The
teen-age piano marvel has much in
common with Van Cliburn. He
began to exhibit an extraordinary
talent at the keyboard at the age
of 3, and went on to win many
prizes before he took the coveted
Tchaikowsky International compe-
tition at the age of 16. He began
actual studies at the age of 61/2, and
at 7 was enrolled in the special
Music School, affiliated with the
Leningrad Conservatory.

When the WHIT-LO SINGERS
come to the Masonic Auditorium
8:20 p.m., Jan. 18, audiences will
hear the brilliant chorus of 30
mixed voices in a concert ranging
from the sacred songs of Johan
Sebastian Bach to the melodies of
Jerome Kern. The original glee
club that swept the nation in a
Fred Waring Competition in 1942,
it is directed by the two founding
musicians—conductor Arthur Whit-
temore and arranger Jack Love.
Organized as the University of
Rochester Glee Club, the Whitte-
more and Lowe entry took a hands-
down first prize.
